About the Role

We are seeking an Investigator Payments Lead – Associate (Clinical Site Payments Lead - Associate) to join our team in a remote working capacity.

As an Investigator Payments Lead - Associate, you will play a critical role in ensuring clinical trial sites and investigators receive accurate and timely payments throughout the study lifecycle. Supporting the sponsor's Clinical Development & Operations organization through the FSP model, you will oversee key investigator payment activities, drive operational excellence, and help maintain positive site relationships that contribute to successful study delivery.

This position is responsible for managing payment related activities from study start up through closeout, including payment system configuration, budget alignment, payment oversight, issue resolution, and vendor management. You will collaborate across clinical operations, finance, legal, technology, and external partners to ensure payment processes are executed in accordance with contractual terms and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the lifecycle of clinical site payment administration, including protocol schedules of activities, per subject costs, payment triggers, database build activities, startup payments, EDC driven visit payments, and invoiceable items

  • Lead planning activities to ensure payment systems are configured appropriately and startup milestone payments are delivered on time

  • Assess EDC design and data collection processes to ensure accurate mapping to budget structures and timely payment triggering

  • Troubleshoot payment failures and implement solutions to minimize delays in site payments

  • Review and provide guidance on the configuration of site contracts and budgets within payment systems to ensure alignment with contractual terms

  • Provide oversight of vendors to ensure adherence to investigator payment processes, standards, payment approvals, invoice management, and issue resolution

  • Triage complex technology and process issues involving site relationships, budgets, contracts, regulatory requirements, taxes, currencies, and other dependencies

  • Review study payment performance, identify root causes of issues, and drive corrective actions to ensure payments are processed according to contractual obligations

  • Ensure appropriate contracts, work orders, purchase orders, and funding mechanisms are active and sufficient to support timely payment processing

  • Support study specific audit activities related to investigator payments when required

  • Resolve site and study level payment escalations to maintain site satisfaction and operational continuity

  • Collaborate with cross functional stakeholders to support effective payment operations across global clinical studies

Candidate Profile

You’ll thrive in this role if you bring:

  • Strengths in organization, problem solving, and stakeholder collaboration

  • Experience working in clinical research, finance, accounting, contracts, or another regulated environment

  • The ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Sound business judgment and an understanding of clinical site budgets, payment terms, and operational processes

  • Comfort working with payment systems, EDC data, contracts, budgets, and cross functional workflows

Required Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent relevant professional experience

  • 1+ years of experience in clinical contracts and budget administration, accounting, finance, clinical project management, clinical operations, or a related field

  • Knowledge of clinical operations, clinical protocols, and site budgets

  • Demonstrated understanding of clinical site and vendor budgets and payment terms

  • Excellent interpersonal, administrative, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across clinical operations, business technology, legal, finance, tax, and other functional teams

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team-oriented environment

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with EDC data, systems, monitoring, or management

  • Experience with industry payment processing software and the development of business requirements

  • Experience working with a Clinical Research Organization or sponsor

  • Knowledge of local tax and payment regulations in countries where clinical trials are conducted

  • Experience supporting cross border financial transactions

  • Demonstrated ability to make recommendations related to investigator payment processes and issue resolution
