About this Role

Parexel Early Phase Clinical Unit supports the development of innovative new medicines which are vital for public health, improving outcomes, and saving lives. The early phase and “first in human” trials are the first step in testing these novel treatments in humans.


At Parexel Glendale Unit our highly trained and skilled nurses are the front-line staff involved in administering these new compounds to our volunteer participants via multiple routes, including, but not limited to, IV, IM, SC, PO, Topical, Inhalation etc. Then monitor the volunteer participants health status around the clock as per the trial protocol to ensure their safety and wellbeing.

Your time here: As a Clinical Research Nurse, you take the lead on shifts as well as on trials and are involved in all aspects of the trial development process at the Unit. You work as part of a team and will collaborate with other departments such as Pharmacy, Screening, Laboratory, Clinical, Recruitment, and Project Management. Your work environment is fast-paced, interesting, dynamic, and rewarding.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Clinical Practices, and all work processes to ensure the efficient and compliant clinical operation of the Early Phase Clinical Unit (EPCU).

  • Performs or arranges for phlebotomy, urine collection, sample preparation, storage and shipment of samples, drug dispensing, and follows GCP quality study documentation

  • Performs daily equipment and drug checks as required by departmental policy. Documentation is completed accordingly. Reports equipment failures to the Clinical Services Leader. Arranges for replacement of expired or used supplies in conjunction with the Clinical Services Leader

  • Responsible for clinical trial material accountability in coordination with EPCU Pharmacy Technician and Pharmacist. Maintains security of blinded code and notifies physician of participant conditions, which may require blinded code identification.

  • Perform clinical nursing procedures independently with appropriate skills and competency.

  • Assess health care needs of the study participants and plan, implement and evaluate care designed to meet study participant needs and safety.

  • Administer and/or assists with oral medication, intramuscular injections intravenous injections, treatments and other medical procedures as prescribed by the physician.

  • Recognize changes in the study participant’s physical, mental and behavioral condition; take appropriate action by notifying physician and/or nursing supervisor and/or research team; and provide accurate documentation.

  • Respond to emergency situations using standard emergency protocols and procedures.

  • Ensure that all nursing and protocol-related procedures are completed and documented properly.

  • Maintains and updates professional competencies, knowledge of Clinical Operating Guideline and related hospital policies and procedures and their proper application.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Skills:

  • Possess clinical nursing skills and techniques.

  • Demonstrate an adequate technical vocabulary.

  • Demonstrate competency in all research-related tasks.

  • Have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and/or indication of the study participants served.

  • Maintain a flexible attitude with respect to work assignments and new learning.

  • Possess the ability to manage multiple and varied tasks with enthusiasm and prioritize workload with attention to detail.

  • Willingness to work in a matrix environment and to value the importance of teamwork.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • 1 year of clinical experience in an acute hospital setting or comparable experience in a clinical research environment

Education:

  • Current California Licensed Vocational Nurse license.

  • Intravenous and Phlebotomy Certification.

  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.

  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required.

  • EKG and Telemetry a plus

Hours/Shifts

  • 20 hours per week

  • Weekend / holiday shift required, depending on business needs.

Base Pay Range: $30.00 to $45.00 per hour

Actual salaries may vary within the range based on several factors including, but not limited to education, training, experience, professional achievement, and location.

In addition to base salary, some roles may be eligible for participation in Parexel’s annual performance-based bonus plan, annual salary review and additional total rewards incentives.
